Not for a long vacation or a complicated getaway. Just somewhere a little cooler, with beautiful scenery and a slower pace.
This spring, we found exactly that aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad.
Located in Clarkdale, just outside Cottonwood, the railroad offers a unique way to experience a side of Arizona many visitors—and even longtime residents—rarely see.
An Old Arizona Experience
The railroad itself has a timeless charm. Vintage train cars, friendly staff, and a relaxed atmosphere create the feeling that you've stepped back into a simpler era.
The Best Seat on the Train
While the comfortable indoor seating offers panoramic views, the real magic happens in the open-air viewing car.
As the train winds its way through the canyon, passengers can step outside and take in the scenery from every angle.
For us, it was one of those rare experiences where the journey truly becomes the destination.
A Bloody Mary with a View
One of the unexpected highlights of the trip was enjoying a Bloody Mary while taking in the scenery.
The train features a full-service bar, making it easy to settle into the afternoon and enjoy the ride.
Something about sipping a Bloody Mary while watching the canyon drift by simply feels right.
