Blended Margarita

A good margarita doesn’t need twelve ingredients or a mixology degree. This is the one we make at home when tacos are on the menu and the patio is calling.

Orange juice softens the lime, sparkling water keeps it from becoming too sweet, and a prepared margarita mix makes the whole operation decidedly Tuesday-friendly.

Blend it with plenty of ice, pour it into a salt-rimmed glass, and take it outside. Taco Tuesday is officially underway.

Why You’ll Love This Margarita

It’s cold, citrusy, and easy to make with ingredients you can find at any grocery store. The orange juice softens the lime, the sparkling water keeps it from being overly sweet, and the blender does most of the work. Five minutes later, you’re on the patio with a margarita—and Tuesday is looking considerably better.

Prep Time: About 5 minutes | Yield: 2 margaritas

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces tequila

  • 2 ounces orange juice

  • 4 ounces lime sparkling water

  • 4 ounces margarita mix

  • Ice

  • Lime wedges, for the glasses and garnish

  • Salt, for the rims, if desired

How to Make It

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rims of two glasses and dip the rims into salt, if desired.

  2. Fill a blender or Margarita Maker with ice.

  3. Add the tequila, orange juice, and margarita mix.

  4. Blend until smooth.

  5. Add the lime sparkling water and pulse briefly, just until combined.

  6. Pour into the prepared glasses, garnish with lime wedges, and serve immediately.

Pro Tips & Notes

  • Add the sparkling water after the other ingredients are blended and pulse it only briefly. Carbonation likes to make an entrance.

  • Taste before pouring. Add a little more margarita mix if you prefer it sweeter or another squeeze of lime if you like more pucker.

  • The salted rim is optional. I usually salt at least half the glass so everyone can choose their own adventure.

  • Serve it right away. A blended margarita left sitting on the counter quickly becomes a very cold glass of indecision.

  • Making another round? Measure the ingredients before the first round disappears. Your future self will appreciate the organization.
