Golf is Hard. We Still Keep Coming Back.

There are certain things in life that look much easier than they are.

Golf is one of them.

You stand there with a little white ball, a perfectly good club, and a beautiful course in front of you — and somehow the ball still finds the water, the sand, the rough, or — on a really special day — all three.

And yet, we keep coming back.

That's the funny little magic of golf. It humbles you, frustrates you, makes you laugh at yourself, and then rewards you with one good shot just when you were ready to quit.

The Best Part Isn’t Always the Score

Some of my favorite golf days have had very little to do with the actual golf.

It's the early tee time with friends.
The pretty course views.
The laugh after a terrible shot.
The drink after the round.

Golf gives you a reason to be outside, to move, to linger, and to spend a few hours doing something that doesn't have to be perfect to be worthwhile.

That may be my favorite part.

Before You Head Out — Karen's Golf Day Checklist

☐ A visor that doesn't give you hat hair
☐ Sunscreen — in the bag, not the car (we've all learned this the hard way)
☐ A cold drink in a tumbler that actually keeps it cold (the Stanley IceFlow is mine)
☐ More golf balls than you think you'll need. Then add two more.
☐ Shoes you'd be happy wearing for four hours (I wear these)
☐ A sense of humor — non-negotiable
☐ A friend who laughs with you after the rough

These are just a few of my go-to golf day picks. Find the rest of my favorites — on and off the course — Favorites Page →

Final Thought

Golf is a challenge.

But maybe that's exactly why it feels so satisfying when something finally clicks.

It gives us fresh air, friendship, patience, humility, and just enough hope to come back for another round.

And really, that's not a bad way to spend the day.

Because Golf is …

for the Birds.

Which is probably where half my golf balls end up.
